Recently Tracy and Maria went to see Brené Brown speak in Sydney.
Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor who has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy. She speaks passionately about leadership and what it takes to be powerful leaders. She is the author of five books including Dare to Lead and she now has a show on Netfilx also.
In Sydney there were lots of messages around being a courageous leader. One of our main takeaways was, as Leaders we need the courage to have tough conversations. To quote Brené,
‘It’s kind to be clear, it’s unkind to be unclear.’
Such an important point to remember when giving feedback to those we lead. And after the feedback is given and to then be able to help your team member correct the behaviour, ask this powerful question:
‘For me to be able to help you, what does support look like to you right now?’
It’s a great question actually to ask anyone who needs support with whatever they are going through.
Brené is a believer in sharing her knowledge, experience and tools – for Free! Here is a link to her website where you will find quotes, checklists and plenty of very useful downloads.
