The secret is helping your people to choose to change.
Maria often says, ‘Change happens best and lasts longest when it’s a choice and not forced.’
What we see when leaders try to force change is:
⚠️It’s hard work and takes a lot of energy
⚠️It creates tension and conflict
⚠️It can just simply backfire, and your desired outcomes aren’t reached
If anything, force can create more resistance to your change. It just doesn’t help people to support the change and change their behaviour.
As leaders I think it’s really important to think about your strategy when introducing change to help people to choose to come with you on the journey. Your position of authority doesn’t guarantee your people will come with you. Either will pushing through and wanting a quick result.
